We are fabricating fender skirts that will be flush fitted, not bubble style. The first step is to trace the opening on a cardboard pattern then hand form 1/4" round rod to the shape of the pattern. We like to use the wheel opening as a buck to hold the skeleton. This generally confuses a lot of people because they think the fender skirt is getting welded to the car... and they are, but only as a temporary buck. As much as we enjoy the look of the 1950 Ford with the extended wheel openings we want to have the option of putting fender skirts on it.
